Riverside towns offering summer camps, children’s programs

The school year is coming to an end in almost a month and summer is just around the corner. In 2021, many had onerous restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic.
This spring, cities are hosting summer camps and programs to keep kids active, both mentally and physically, and registrations are still open across the region.
Guilford Parks and Recreation
Guilford Parks and Recreation offers several camps for children, including sports, such as basketball, volleyball, lacrosse and field hockey. Dates and prices vary, with costs ranging from $ 80 to $ 175.
Camp Menunkatuck is also an option for children entering grades 1 through 6. The camp runs weekly from June 21 to August 13 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The entire summer costs $ 1,050, or campers can register for $ 150 per week if they do not plan to attend all sessions. Registration for the eight sessions must be completed by June 1.
Activities include archery, arts and crafts, sports, nature, cooperative games, swimming and kayaking.
Recreation also offers the Get Out Way Out camp for children in grades 7 to 9. This option includes trips to Bowlero, Six Flags New England, State Beaches, and Lake Compounce.

North Branford Summer Camp
North Branford Public Schools are offering a variety of enrichment camps this summer at Tokoket Valley Elementary School in Northford for children in grades 1 through 8.
Sessions start June 21 and end August 13. Prices range from $ 160 to $ 250 per week, and programming includes sart, cooking, sports and more. For more information visit summercamp.northbranfordschools.org.
Waterford Leisure Camps & Parks
Waterford Recreation and Parks has several camp offers for children. One is the Art Drawing Summer Camp July 19-23 for children ages eight to 14 at the Waterford Community Center. It costs $ 75 for residents.
Waterford is also offering the STEAM Ahead with Legos camp for ages 7-9 from July 12-16 at the Community Center. Children will work with Legos to solve pre-engineering problems such as structure and other simple machine parts. The fee is $ 130.
There is an active yoga / fitness class on Saturdays from July 10 to August 14 for anyone 16 and over at the community center. The fee is $ 50 for residents.

Colchester Day Camps
Colchester offers a few summer camps, including one at Colchester RecPlex from June 28 to August 20 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for children from Kindergarten to Grade 7.
This camp has different themes each week with special activities, such as Nature Week, Water Play Week, and Wild West Week. It’s $ 160 a week.
The Challenger soccer camp is also taking place at RecPlex July 26-30. The camp for children ages 8 to 16 runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., while 6 to 10 year olds attend from 9 a.m. to noon. The session costs $ 209 for the older group and $ 159 for the youngest.
There is also a food / cooking camp August 16-20 from 9 a.m. to noon at the RecPlex pavilion for children in grades 2 to 5. Every day, campers will experience a different country and the different foods they eat. After the lesson, they will prepare two of the recipes presented. This camp option has a maximum of 10 campers.
