Team USA hit double digits in 10-2 win over Germany – The Rink Live
LANDSHUT, Germany — Team USA completed its final preliminary round of the 2022 IIHF Men’s U18 World Championship with a 10-2 loss to Germany on Tuesday, April 26.
The Americans wasted no time getting on the scoresheet, scoring just 44 seconds into the game. The United States scored twice more before the first 20 minutes were up.
An explosive five-goal second period helped stretch Team USA’s lead to 8-0.
The Germans scored two goals on their own in the third period, one on the power play and another with less than five minutes left in regulation time.
Most Team USA players would end up on the scoresheet. Most notably, Will Smith (Lexington, Mass./Boston College), Cole Spicer (Grand Forks), Rutger McGroarty (Lincoln, Neb./Michigan), Lane Hutson (North Barrington, Ill./Boston University), Seamus Casey (Fort Myers, Fla./Michigan) and Devin Kaplan (Bridgewater, NJ/Boston University) all had two points, while Cruz Lucius (Grant, Minn./Minnesota) had three assists.
Trey Augustine (South Lyon, Mich./Michigan) made 20 of 22 saves in front of goal for a .909 save percentage.
Team USA finished the preliminary round 3-0 and will advance to the quarter-finals. They will face Latvia on Thursday, April 28 at 12:30 p.m. CT.
